LCBT’s Level 2 Technical Certificate in Make-up Artistry is a fantastic programme that mixes both the theory and practical skills needed for a career in the specialist make-up market which covers hair, make-up and research to develop and showcase designs. This course is ideal for those who passion for working in the make-up artistry, who want to pursue a career into this exciting industry.

The Level 2 Technical Certificate qualification aims to provide you with a range of essential technical and practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further training in the industry. You will be qualified to work in a number of employment destinations such as photographic studios, department stores, make-up stores or salons. You will also be equipped to work as a freelance make-up artist. You could also plan to further your studies by taking other qualifications at Level 3.

You will be provided with a uniform to wear whilst you are at college and a make-up kit that you will own to support you completing your practical treatments and to be used personally.

A good level of English, successful interview and initial assessment. Successful completion of a relevant Level 1 qualification or a minimum of 5 GCSEs including English and Maths grades 9-4 (formerly A*-C) or a Level 2 Functional Skill in English and Maths. Potential learners need to be able to demonstrate dedication and commitment to learning and have aspirations to work and progress into the industry.

  • 8-10 months depending on the mode of study


  • Typically between 2-4 days a week which would normally include some weekend and evenings

Course designed for the learner taking their first steps to become a make-up artist with a variety of delivery based on hair, make-up and creative skills.

You will be taught in state of the art dedicated Make-Up rooms by our lecturers who have extensive experience in the make-up, film, TV and styling industries. You will also benefit from a range of enrichment opportunities including industry talks, and the chance to practice your skills in industry. Depending on your entry and prior qualifications you may also be required to undertake English and Maths Functional Skills or GCSE’s dependent on your criteria.

Students will also learn health & safety and industry knowledge.

*If you are 16-18 years of age, as part of your course you may need to complete Functional Skills in English and/or Maths.

Depending on your prior qualifications, you may need to undertake a GCSE option in English and/or Maths



The course will be assessed by completing an externally set marked exam, unit assignments, building a portfolio of evidence and practical assessment days.

You will gain a Level 2 Advanced Technical Certificate in Make-up Artistry. This will allow you progress to our Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Media Make-up Artistry; Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Media Make-up Artistry or Level 3 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up.

Some of the career options open to you and could lead to job as: Photo Shoot Make-up Artist; Magazine and Publication Make-up Artist; Make-up Retail at Department and/or Make-up stores; Salon Make-up Artist.

Once enrolled you will have access to the on-line Job Shop and careers advisors!

  • 16-18 – No Course Fees
      • (£160 Required for Kit to use in salon and keep)
  • Full Cost – £3,633
    • (Inclusive of Uniform and Kit to use in the salon and keep)
  • OVERSEAS STUDENTS: International Students outside of the EEA do not qualify for concessionary or non-concessionary fees and will be required to pay the full cost of tuition fees. Evidence of your legality to study in the UK will be required. LCBT is unable to provide any assistance with visa application processes and reserves the right to refuse enrolment on to the course.
