The 16 to 19 tuition fund 2022 to 2023 academic year

The purpose of this statement is to set out how The London College of Beauty Therapy (LCBT) will use its 16 to 19 tuition fund allocation to support students who have been academically disadvantaged due to coronavirus (COVID-19).

WHAT IS THE 16 TO 19 TUITION FUND?

The 16 to 19 tuition is a fund, provided by the Education, Skills and Funding Agency (ESFA), ring fenced for schools, colleges and all other 16 to 19 providers. For the academic year 2022/23 has provided additional funds for the purpose of supporting learners. to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from coronavirus (COVID-19).

HOW LCBT WILL USE THE 16 TO 19 TUITION FUND?

The funding is eligible to support one-to-one and small group tuition for 16 to 19 students in English, maths, and other courses where learning has been disrupted, and that delivery has been in the 2020 to 2021 or 2021 to 2022 academic year. The students supported all need to be those who had not achieved grade 5 or above in at least one of those subjects at this level by age 16. All supported students must be on a 16 to 19 study programme.

Tuition support will be offered based on an individual needs assessment of each learner eligible with clear learning goals, expectations and outcomes.

Small group tuition support will be prioritised for students who have not achieved a grade 4 in English and/or maths. However, further to those students, if funding is available, any young people with a grade 4 that also need catch up support will be supported.

LCBT will prioritise students that will benefit most from small group tuition, based on the criteria above. We will also prioritise the needs of students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and those from an economically disadvantaged backgrounds (defined as students residing in the 27% most economically deprived areas of the country based on the Index of Multiple Deprivation), particularly where they have experienced additional disruption to learning as a result of their specific needs and disabilities.

Young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 19 to 24 who have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan will be eligible for support via the 16 to 19 Tuition Fund.

Tuition will only be delivered as one-to-one and to small groups of up to 5 students other than in one off or exceptional circumstances. Tuition sessions will be scheduled in addition to the planned programme of study hours already timetabled for the academic year 2021/2022. Tuition and additional support will be delivered in a blend of both online/remote support and at college delivery.

Examples of some of the Tuition Support on offer will include:

• Additional Small Group Tuition Workshops In English And Maths For Topic Support.
• GCSE And Functional Skills Revision Workshops For Assessment/Revision/Consolidation Of Knowledge And Skills.
• Skills And Knowledge Building Workshops For Eligible Learners To Focus On Study Skills And Focused Support For The Embedding Of Technical, Vocational, And Academic Skills.

Some of the fund will be used in the provision of Individual Learning and Support Practitioners and increasing the hours of Learning Support Staff to provide the additional tuition support to learners within their additional tuition groups.
