We recently caught up with Taisha, one of our Level 2 Hair & Media Make-Up Diploma alumni, now a Pro Make-Up Artist, to walk us through her go-to routine for creating the perfect everyday nude lip. Here are her expert tips to achieve a flawless finish in 3 simple steps.

How To Create The Perfect Nude Lip in 3 Steps

Step 1: Prep the Lips for Long-Lasting Colour

Start by applying a hydrating lip mask to soften and nourish the lips. Once absorbed, gently blot away any excess product. Lightly dust a small amount of powder over the lips to create a smooth matte base – this also helps the lip liner and lipstick stay in place throughout the day!

Step 2: Add Lipliner

Next, define your lips using a lipliner. Taisha recommends the Peaches & Cream lipliner – one of her top picks for both affordability and quality. Begin with lining the bottom lip, supporting your hand by placing a finger under the client’s chin for stability. Start at the corners and work towards the middle for symmetry. For added staying power, fill in the entire lip with the liner to act as a strong base.

Pro Tip from Taisha: Ask your client to look up when checking the lower lip, and down when checking the top – this helps ensure perfect symmetry.

Step 3: Add Colour

Using the MAC Pro Lip Palette, Taisha selects and mixes nude shades to create a custom colour to suit the client. Load your lip brush with product and apply to the centre of the lips, blending outward towards the edges for precision. Don’t worry about any imperfections on the first try – any uneven edges can be cleared up after. For a touch of dimension, you can add a dab of lip gloss to the middle of the lips.
