HAIR & MEDIA MAKE-UP

LCBT's Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up covers the essential knowledge and understanding needed to help you start your career as a make-up artist. The units that you study will provide you with the basic skills to perform many media, cat walk and theatre looks. Units include Make-Up, Colouring and Dressing Hair, Eyelash & Brow Treatments, Body Art, Photographic Make-Up, Professional Client Care and Communication, as well as experiencing the duties and responsibilities of working in a salon.

You will be provided with a uniform to wear whilst you are at college and a make-up kit that you will own to support you completing your practical treatments and to be used personally.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A good level of English, successful interview and initial assessment. Potential learners need to be able to demonstrate dedication and commitment to learning and have aspirations to work and progress into the industry.

CURRICULUM

Course designed for the learner taking their first steps to become a make-up artist or hair stylist with a variety of delivery based on hair, make-up and creative skills.

You will be taught in state of the art dedicated Make-Up rooms by our lecturers who have extensive experience in the make-up, film, TV and styling industries. You will also benefit from a range of enrichment opportunities including industry talks, and the chance to practice your skills in industry. Depending on your entry and prior qualifications you may also be required to undertake English and Maths Functional Skills or GCSE’s dependent on your criteria.

CONTENT:

  • Day, Evening & Special Occasion Make-Up
  • Photographic Make-Up
  • Lash & Brow Treatments
  • Styling Hair Additions
  • Creative Hair Design – a range of techniques including temporary & semi- permanent colour, plaiting, twisting, vertical rolling and Blow-drying.
  • Self-tanning Techniques
  • Body Art
  • Creating an Image For a Client - based on a choice of themes including historical, fantasy & special occasion

Learners will also study client care, health & safety and industry knowledge.

*If you are 16-18 years of age, as part of your course may need to complete Functional Skills or GCSEs in English and/or Maths. If you do need to complete English or Maths you will complete the manicure unit. If you need to complete both English and Maths the manicure unit won’t form part of your qualification.

WHAT'S NEXT

The certificate you will gain will be the Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up. This will allow you progress to our Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Hair & Media Make-up, as well as give you the skills to start a career in the make-up industry. You will be able to find work on a make-up counter through our Job Shop, which has hundreds of vacancies.
