LCBT's Level 2 Technical Certificate in Healthcare, Care & Childcare delivered at our college in central London covers the essential knowledge and understanding needed to help you start your career within the healthcare, care and childcare industries. You can complete this course if they are between the ages of 16-18 and have a Level 4-9/A-C or above in both English and maths. This qualification will provide you with a range of technical knowledge and practical skills which will enable you to gain employment or complete further training in the industry. When you complete your qualification you will be graded a pass, merit or distinction and will be able to progress onto Level 3.

The knowledge and skills gained will ensure that you are able to operate in a Healthcare, Care or Childcare setting. You will cover communication skills, safe working and safeguarding skills as well as working skills specific to each sector.

You will also have to complete 120-150 hours’ work experience. LCBT will support in finding an employer who will provide this work experience. The work experience really gives you the opportunity to put the skills you would have gained into practice and handle real workplace situations.

You will get practice and support to enable you to develop the required skills and knowledge to prepare you for the learning and end assessment. LCBT will work with local Healthcare, Care and Childcare employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. The different ways in which centres could support your learning, by working with structured work-experience or work-placements within their business, include:

  • your attendance at classes or lectures given by industry experts.
  • employers input into projects and exercises, or being involved with setting assessments and examinations.
  • employers who act as ‘expert witnesses’ to contribute to the assessment of your work.

You will be provided with a uniform to wear whilst you are at college and learning materials that you will own to support you on your course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

16-18 years of age. Achieved grades 9-4/A-C in GCSE English and GCSE Maths. Successful applicants would need to demonstrate a strong passion for a career in the Health, Social & Child Care industry together with a successful interview and initial assessment. Potential learners need to be able to demonstrate dedication and commitment to learning and have aspirations to work and progress into the industry.

DURATION & STUDY MODE

There are various delivery options. Your prior attainment and start date will determine your days in college. Typically, courses run over a 2-3* days week in a 7-10 month period

* All onsite days will be between 9am-6pm and may include evenings and Saturday attendance to reflect the industry and prepare you for employment. Fantastic enrichment events will also be included in your programme of study and may fall on evenings and weekends depending on the course.

CURRICULUM

This course provides the essential knowledge, understanding ad practical experience needed to help you start your career within the healthcare, care and childcare industry. The units that you study will provide you with the skills and knowledge which will equip you to seek employment or further training within on of these industries.

CONTENT:

  • Working in healthcare and care

  • Working with babies, children, young people and families in care and education

  • Values, beliefs and behaviours for working in healthcare, care and childcare settings

  • Communicating for effective practice in healthcare, care and childcare

  • Working safely in healthcare, care and childcare environments

  • Safeguarding and protecting vulnerable individuals

  • Supporting health and healthy living in healthcare, care and childcare

  • Principles and theories of human growth and development

  • Developing resilience for working in healthcare, care and childcare

  • Enrichment to develop further skills

*If you are 16-18 years of age as part of your course you may need to complete Functional Skills or GCSEs in English and/or Maths. If you do not need to complete English or Maths you may complete the additional qualification units.

WHAT'S NEXT

You will gain a Level 2 Technical Certificate in Healthcare, Care and Childcare.

Achievement of this qualification demonstrates to an employer that you have the necessary technical skills and knowledge they are looking for when recruiting for positions such as:

  • Healthcare assistant

  • Care assistant

  • Childcare worker/assistant

You could also progress to our new Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Health and Care starting in 2022/23 academic year

  • OVERSEAS STUDENTS: International Students may not qualify for Government funding, concessionary or non-concessionary fees and will be required to pay the full cost of tuition fees. Evidence of your legality to study in the UK will be required. LCBT is unable to provide any assistance with visa application processes and reserves the right to refuse enrolment on to the course.
