LCBT’s Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma Theatrical, Special Effect and Media Make-up Artistry is a fantastic programme that mixes both the theory and practical skills needed for a career in the media market which covers Theatrical, Special effects make-up mixed in with creative and specialist hair and wig design, body art, prosthetics, bald caps and research and blogging of the media industry skills. This course is ideal for those who are interested in the Special effects, theatrical and media- make up.
The Level 3 Diploma is an enhancement for those who already hold a Level 2 in Hair and Media Make-up and is also a fantastic option for those who hold a make-up artistry certificate or certificate in make-up. The technical Diploma will teach core skills which will progress you to an Advanced Level and give the creative and technical know-how to build your professional portfolio.
You will be provided with a uniform to wear whilst you are at college and a make-up kit that you will own to support you completing your practical treatments and to be used personally.

A good level of English, successful interview and initial assessment. Potential learners need to be able to demonstrate dedication and commitment to learning and have aspirations to work and progress into the industry.
Successful completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification or A-level Art or BTEC in Art and Design and a minimum of 5 GCSEs including English and Maths grades 9-4 (formerly A*-C) or a Level 2 Functional Skill in English and Maths.
Level 3 entries will require a completed Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma or Hair and Media Makeup course, produce a mood board and for internal students a positive reference from their previous tutor.

- 8-10 months depending on the mode of study
- Typically between 2-4 days a week which would normally include some weekend and evenings
The course is designed to teach the learner the advanced technical skills of make-up and hair artistry including theatrical make-up, special effects and media make-up artistry which is ideal for those who want to pursue a career into this exciting industry.
You will be taught in state of the art dedicated Make-Up rooms by our lecturers who have extensive experience in the make-up, film, TV and styling industries. You will also benefit from a range of enrichment opportunities including industry talks, and the chance to practice your skills in industry. Depending on your entry and prior qualifications you may also be required to undertake English and Maths Functional Skills or GCSE’s dependant on your criteria.
- Cutting and styling techniques for performers
- Avant-Garde hair and make up
- Creative make-up design for productions and industry demands
- Apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps
- Special effects make-up
- Create, dress and fit facial postiche
- Body art for competition
- Camouflage make-up
- Media make-up blogging
- Wig dressing, fitting and maintenance
Students will also learn client care & communication skills, health & safety and industry knowledge.
*If you are 16-18 years of age, as part of your course you may need to complete Functional Skills in English and/or Maths.
Depending on your prior qualifications, you may need to undertake a GCSE option in English and/or Maths
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED:
The course will be assessed by completing an externally set marked exam, unit assignments, building a portfolio of evidence and practical assessment days.
You will gain a Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Media Make-up Artistry. The qualification will demonstrate to an employer that you have the necessary advanced technical skills to be employed as a Theatrical and Media Make-up Artist. The course will open the doors to you for employment in the worlds of TV, Theatre and Styling or as a Freelance Make-up Artist (MUA) through our Job Shop

- OVERSEAS STUDENTS: International Students outside of the EEA do not qualify for concessionary or non-concessionary fees and may not qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan will be required to pay the full cost of tuition fees. Evidence of your legality to study in the UK will be required. LCBT is unable to provide any assistance with visa application processes and reserves the right to refuse enrolment on to the course.
