10 Benefits you can gain from a Hairdressing role

If hairdressing is a role that has always interested you there are some very good reasons to consider it as a career. From the opportunities it offers for travel and learning, to the skills you’ll acquire, the benefits of a hairdressing role are many.

  1. Good job security. Especially with Brexit looming, job security has become a top priority for many people. One of the benefits of hairdressing is that people will always need haircuts. So, if you’re looking for a role that offers positive job security it’s a great one to consider.
  2. Opportunities to work anywhere. Hairdressing is a very transferable skill, which means that you can work pretty much anywhere. From salons in the UK to New York Fashion Week or jobs in holiday hot spots you’ll have lots of options when it comes to work locations.
  3. A positive experience. If your day-to-day experience of life is important, hairdressing has a lot to offer – it’s regularly voted one of the happiest jobs in the world. Why? Well every day you’ll have contact with people and be able to use your skills and creativity for job satisfaction.
  4. It can be a very flexible role. If you’re a hairdresser then you have a lot of options in terms of the way that you design your life. From renting a chair in a salon to setting up a mobile hairdressing business where you travel to clients you can choose the lifestyle that works best for you.
  5. There are opportunities to earn. Just like any job, when you’re starting out you might find that getting established requires working long hours and sometimes with not much pay. However, once you start to build your reputation it’s possible to begin making some serious money. Whether you build up a regular client list or move into a position like salon manager, the salaries can be very competitive.
  6. You’ll be able to make a name for yourself. Whether it’s entering industry competitions, creating an influencer style social media profile or working on photo shoots or fashion weeks there are lots of ways to build profile and reputation.
  7. It’s a people-focused industry. From the regular client contact to interactions with salon staff, the range of people you’ll meet as a hairdresser is broad. That means it’s simple to build your contacts book and there’s plenty of socialising on offer too.
  8. No day is dull. If you’re looking for variety then you can create it with a hairdressing role, from the places that you work to the people that you meet.
  9. There are lots of ways to improve and learn. From training courses to qualifications you can continue to improve and grow throughout your career.
  10. It’s hard to beat for learning interpersonal skills. Client psychology and customer management are as important as cutting skills in hairdressing. This type of career will teach you a lot about how to interact with, and manage, customers. This is essential knowledge whether you stay in this industry or choose to move on.

For anyone looking at a carer in hairdressing, the benefits are clear.

Professional Beauty 2016

So you’re training to become a Make-up artist and you’ve taken up the chance to be part of some enrichment at college to practice your skills outside of college. Packing your kit, wondering what’s in store for the day? What the exhibition will be like?

We offered enrichment to all our Level 2 and Level 3 Beauty Therapy and Hair and Media Make Up learners to attend the recent 100% Optical show working as part of the William Morris London stand. A beautifully laid out show, with tons of networking opportunity, meeting business owners and optologists, offering advice about day make up all while carrying out make overs at the highest point in the entire exhibition.

Little did we all know when we arrived that we would be offering make overs to visitors and exhibitors of the show on top of the open roofed double decker bus that William Morris had on their exhibition stand! What an exciting time we had, meeting the lovely William Morris NAME, founder of William Morris, we felt honored to be part of such an exceptional event and met some wonderful clients who taught us various things about the optometrist industry.

Thank you to everyone we met at the show and we hope to see you all again next year for more make overs!

LCBT Level 2 Hairdressing Group

The HJ Stage at Salon International

Salon International is the number one destination for hair professionals, inspiring hairdressers in the industry today, what better place than to take our Level 2 Women’s and Men’s Hairdressing Diploma group!

We took an exciting college trip down to ExCel London for the Salon International show where we spent the day speaking with industry professionals like Crazy Colour, Tangle Teezer and Diva for the latest products and tools to assist in creating the newest trends in the industry.

The British Hairdressing Awards gallery sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional showcased the work of the stars of the awards, giving our budding hairdressers access to the very best in inspiration and education. The gallery showed the very latest in colouring techniques, cutting trends, Afro styling and Avant Garde categories giving our learners the inspiration and creative ideas to build on for their next creative hair projects.

Kate GreenLevel 2 Hairdressing lecturer

Visiting the new features for this years show including the HJ Stage, the HJ Men Stage, the Wahl stand demonstrations we got inspired by our hairdressing hero’s and learnt how to take the latest in hairstyling from the catwalk to our clients in our college salon.

Kate Bryant, our Level 2 Hairdressing lecturer said “The show gave us the opportunity to see the industry under one roof outside of the classroom. With the chance to meet the people, brands and learn about the products that are having the biggest impact on this ever growing Hair industry at the moment. It’s the perfect place for new Hairdressers to gain inspiration and motivation to do great things and be part of this amazing industry.”

We ended the day by building on our kits with some great show discounts and learning more about latest product innovations as we brought them. Our Hairdressing group where able to build their own knowledge on the industry growing their confidence in being up to date with the latest Hairdressing news and trends, putting their knowledge on British Values into practice throughout the day.

A great day out with some very talented new hairdressers, we can’t wait to see their own creations throughout the rest of their time on course… this space!
