WHAT IS LONDON COLLEGE OF BEAUTY THERAPY (LCBT)?
London College of Beauty Therapy (LCBT) was founded as a specialist independent college in 1995, primarily offering full time courses in Beauty Therapy to NVQ Level 2 and 3 funded by Further Education through a collaborative partnership with a General Further Education College. In 2004 LCBT was awarded a direct Further Education funding contract by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and today has over 1000 learners undertaking NVQ Level 1 2, and 3 Beauty Therapy programmes.
The LCBT mission statement is – `We deliver Careers, Not Courses’. We provide the training, support and encouragement to anyone that applies to the college and maintain that anyone enrolling has a goal to pursue a career within the industry.
In 2005 in response to identified needs in the beauty retail sector, LCBT worked with key retailers and employers to develop the unique Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Retail Consultancy.
DEVELOPING YOUR SKILLS
Being a Beauty Retail Consultant can open a whole new world of opportunity for you. If you love selling, have great customer service skills and want to progress with one of the famous skincare and fragrance companies in this exciting and dynamic sector this is the course for you.
Whether you have sole responsibility for running the account within retail, or are part of a team in a Spa or on a cruise ship, being able to work under pressure and meet sales targets is an essential part of everyday life. You will also need to be able to give top level customer service and advice on skin and nail care, make-up, fragrances etc.
The Diploma will develop your knowledge, sharpen your selling skills and provide a nationally recognised qualification reflecting your experience and skills in the beauty sector.
WHAT IS THE DIPLOMA?
The Level 2 diploma is a nationally recognised, government funded qualification. It is focused on delivering excellent customer service and sales performance in addition to providing you with a best practice business standards and a higher commercial awareness of the beauty industry.
LCBT, as an approved training provider, is able to access funding and our training is currently FREE to the individual and the employer.
The course is delivered in the workplace over approximately 16 weeks, requiring no attendance at college or day release. It is delivered, supported and assessed by our qualified assessors who will look after you throughout the course from induction to completion – visiting you in store and supporting you via phone, email and text message. You will have a set of workbooks to complete - and a fantastic resource book to help you through the workbooks.
The qualification can be handwritten or for those that prefer working on line – you can log into our e-portal and complete everything on line.
WHAT IS THE DIPLOMA COURSE CONTENT?
There are 8 mandatory units:
• History of the Retail industry
• Customer service skills
• Personal effectiveness
• Providing good customer service
• Selling techniques
• Building customer relationships
• Workplace project
• Security in the workplace
and 4 optional units:
• Nail care
• Make up
• Skin care
• Fragrance
From the optional units, you can select between 1,2, 3 or 4 units – depending on which areas you are working in.
WHAT SKILLS OR QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED TO HAVE?
• No previous qualifications are required – indeed, you simply need to want to better yourself!
• You should be working in Beauty Retail: part time or full time.
• You can be a team member, cabin crew, an account manager, a department manager, salon manager or an area manager.
• You can work in store, in a salon, in a spa, on a cruise ship, at the airport or in flight.
• At each company we agree a set of simple measures so that we can assess, at the end of your course, the real impact on the business
ARE THERE ANY EXAMS TO TAKE?
There are no exams to take – the assessors will guide you through the course, coming to see you 3-4 times throughout the 16 week period during which they will review your workbooks, have professional discussions with you, observe you doing your job in the workplace and take photos of your events and counter.
ONCE I HAVE ACHIEVED THE LEVEL 2 DIPLOMA, WHAT’S NEXT?
The Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Retail Consultancy will help you to build your skill base on a path leading to sole account management, management of a retail team or wider opportunities within this dynamic sector. The Diploma is a Level 2 qualification which is the equivalent to 5 GCSE’s at grades A*-C.
Feedback from employers and former Diploma learners indicates a large demand for this qualification and so for 2009, LCBT is also developing a Beauty Retail qualification at Level 3 (the equivalent of two A levels)…
By 2010 we hope to offer a Foundation Degree in Management Studies, linked to the beauty retail sector thus creating a learning ladder from Level 2 to a full degree.
