Recruitment and selection is a cornerstone of running a good business so it has been a highly-requested topic of advice for our Clinics. Our guest speaker was Lisa O’Daly who is the HR Advisor at LCBT. She has had years of recruitment experience and she was able to share her advice and experiences with our attendees. They all found the advice to be invaluable; particularly the topics of avoiding discrimination and falling foul of the law.

During the evening we covered the following topics:

• Creating a Job Description
• Creating a Person Specification
• Attracting candidates
• Selecting candidates
• Interviewing candidates
• Making an offer of employment

The topic of Recruitment sparked a lively group discussion and the attendees were able to ask questions throughout the evening. It was an excellent opportunity for the attendees to network and learn best practice from each other. For example, we discussed various websites used to promote staff vacancies and how successful they were in attracting candidates. We also discussed the issue of discrimination and changes in Employment Law. Lisa stressed the importance of keeping up to date with changes in the law such as the increase in minimum wage.

LCBT has it’s own Jobshop – our flexible delivery ensures that we can match your vacancy requirements with Beauty Therapists qualifying throughout the year. You can register your vacancy with us and we will advertise the vacancy with our past and present students. We will then send you the CV’s of the students who are interested in the vacancy and we will arrange the interviews, trade tests and follow up. We make the process as easy as we can for you…and it is free of charge. If you are interested in registering a vacancy please email Antoinette Peters on antoinette.peters@lcbt.co.uk.

Nadine Bokhoory from Business Link also attended the Clinic. She urged the attendees to start an action plan for recruitment using the new information they picked up from the Advice Clinic. There are relevant information sheets available for advice topics such as Recruitment on the Business Link Website - www.bllondon.co.uk. Business Link are going to be the guest speakers at our next Clinic on growing your Business on Monday 17th March.
